Ok ladies, I meant to do this earlier in the week. Sorry I am just getting to it, hope everyone had a good spring break.

So we should all be through Ch. 6. I am finding out a lot about literacy that I never thought about before or I did thought about but in different ways.

We should all be finished with the book by the time we meet on Wednesday.

If anyone has questions or comments feel free to post.

Hey Tori... I just wanted to fill you in on what we talked about on Wednesday in class. We thought since our book emphasized focusing on incorporating other modes of learning into the literacy curriculum, such as posters, movies, technology, etc..., that it might be interesting to create our own wiki page or blog in order to use discussion boards about various issues presented in our book. We are allowed to use the computer/internet during our presentation so that wouldn't be an issue. We were thinking that maybe on Monday we could talk to the class and ask them to join our wiki to look at or even answer & discuss some of the topics that we post.

We came up with 3 different topics that correspond to those that were discussed in our book. We thought of posting questions pertaining to culture, gender, and racism/power. We could then have the class pretend to be elementary-aged students & respond accordingly on the wiki:

1.) How would you feel if your school library didn't have any books to represent your heritage/culture? What could you do (as a student) to change this?
2.) What would you do if you wanted a certain job when you grow up but only the opposite sex was allowed to have that occupation? How would that make you feel?
3.) Imagine that you witness a hate crime happening to someone of a different race. Would you get involved to help the victim? If so, how and what would you do?

Then for our presentation, we could discuss how using this type of technology in combination with books would help children to take control over their writing as well as to critically think about issues that occur in society and the outside world. We've also composed a list of resources that we could post on our wiki/blog to give the class a list of books that could be used for discussing these types of issues with their students. For example, books for children that spark discussions on racism/power, gender, media literacy, & multimedia text sets. They're on pages 25, 30, 35, 40, & 58 of our book.

Let us know if this is okay with you or if you'd like to change or add anything! Thanks Tori!

Hey guys in my notes I have written that we need a copy of the list of what we did in each meeting---is that for monday?
That's a good question... I don't remember... we should probably bring the info. just the be on the safe side...and do you know if we're supposed to email her our responses to those prereflection ?s or just bring them in to class..

That all sounds awesome. Sorry I couldn't be there you guys really are thinking outside the box. I like the idea of the discussion before our presentation. Do you guys want to me before or after class on Monday to finalize everything? I am not sure about the list of what we did. I was thinkin we turned it in on the day we present????
